SpamExperts Goes Beyond Classical Social Responsibility

Helping a Nursing Home for the Elderly

How did it all start?

During the summer of 2016, a group of SpamExperts employees based in Bucharest office took upon themselves the challenge to help a nursing home replace the old and inappropriate fencing construction to increase security and privacy for the seniors hosted there.

Our team found a charity nursing home affiliated to a monastery and located in the outskirts of Bucharest which hosted a number of approximative 30 seniors. We learnt that this institution was not able to spare the necessary extra funds to secure some necessary construction works to improve the living facilities.

The team of 6 SpamExperts volunteers got together and visited the place; located in a very beautiful remote location in the surroundings of a lake and forest, the building badly needed some improvements to make it more secure.

The average age of people hosted there is above 80. Many of them do not have families, or they cannot be with their loved ones, so their caretakers became their family. All patients are people who require continual nursing care and have significant difficulty coping with the activities of daily living. Nursing aides have to be available for them 24 hours a day.

How did we help?

We decided to volunteer and help the management find the necessary resources to build a new fence around the facilities and increase its security. After learning the requirements, we started to source construction suppliers willing to help. Our team members worked on the project and took roles into solving different tasks from the initial assessments of requirements and quantities of materials needed, to getting price offers and being in touch with the suppliers. Eventually we selected a construction company and the fence was built within two weeks.

We are happy that through this project we had the opportunity to contribute and make a small difference to the life of some senior citizens. This was a very meaningful experience which motivates us to continue doing things for others and stay involved.
